Victorian Terraced Home

Brief Description

An architect asked us to cost a project for clients, to build the extension and design and install a kitchen, however the designs presented to the client didn’t reflect their budget, which was considerably less than the design dictated. After we determined the actual budget and what they wanted to achieve – space, light, practical storage and a stylish kitchen to give a contemporary feel to their Victorian home, we made significant revisions. The budget didn’t allow for the double-width extension, so we reduced it to single width and shortened it slightly in order to reduce the risk of the room looking too long and narrow. We swapped aluminium windows for UPVC, replaced the brick-built extension for blocks and instead of black rendering to the exterior extension we used a high-quality black masonry paint for the contemporary look they wanted. We replaced the door at the end of the kitchen with a full height panoramic glazed panel to allow light to flood-in, a beautiful feature! A large roof light and side window also let light bounce around the room. We added a breakfast bar to the contemporary kitchen to give them a dining/work area something the client now tells us they use daily.
Project Type Single Storey Extension
Location Harborne, Birmingham
Completion Date November 2018
Project Time 12 Weeks

Demolish existing outside shed and erect a single storey extension and install contemporary kitchen. The scope of work increased to include a WC under the stairs.

The clients love the result; “It’s the increase in the quality of our time spent in the home that really makes the difference. The old kitchen was a dark, dank place. It’s now light, spacious and really usable. I would recommend Probuild360, they have listened to everything we wanted and worked on a plan to make the extension happen to the budget!”
